The Practice

What is Thai Massage?

Thai massage, known in Thailand as Nuad Boran or "ancient massage", is a 2,500-year-old healing art that combines acupressure, passive yoga-like stretching, and rhythmic compression along the body's energy lines.

Unlike Western massage, Thai massage is performed fully clothed on a floor mat. The therapist uses their hands, thumbs, elbows, knees, and feet to guide your body through a flowing sequence of stretches and pressure points, working with your breath to deepen each movement.

At Lotus Rhythm, we weave mindfulness into every session. You are not a passive recipient. You are an active participant in your own restoration.

Why Thai at Lotus Rhythm?

Releases Deep Tension

Passive stretching and rhythmic compression work together to release chronic tightness in muscles and connective tissue that regular massage cannot reach.

Restores Energy Flow

Rooted in the ancient concept of Sen energy lines, Thai massage clears blockages and revives the body's natural vitality from head to toe.

Improves Flexibility

Guided stretches gently lengthen muscles and open joints. You leave feeling taller, lighter, and more mobile without any effort on your part.

Calms the Mind

Woven with mindful breathing cues, each session becomes a moving meditation, quieting mental noise and leaving you in a state of deep, grounded calm.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to bring anything?

Just yourself. We provide loose, comfortable clothing for you to change into. Avoid eating a heavy meal in the two hours before your session.

Is Thai massage painful?

It should never be painful. Our therapists work within your comfort range at all times. The stretches may feel intense but should always feel good, like a deep, satisfying release.

Is it done on a mat or a table?

Traditional Thai massage is performed on a comfortable floor mat, which allows the full range of stretching and movement. We use high-quality cushioned mats.

Can I combine Thai with another treatment?

Absolutely. Many clients love pairing Thai stretches with a Swedish or deep tissue massage. Ask us about combination sessions when you book.

Is it suitable for everyone?

Thai massage is suitable for most people. Please let us know if you are pregnant, have had recent surgery, or have any injuries or medical conditions so we can adapt the session for you.
